Trichy

Tiruchirappalli or Trichy is educational and industrial center of Tamil Nadu which is located about 320 km from the capital city Chennai. Srirangam town, famous for its temples lies in Trichy municipality. History of Trichy trace back to 3rd century BC, when it was under the rule of the Cholas. The city ruled by various dynasties like Pandyas, Pallavas, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayak Dynasty and the British.

Place of tourists attraction Trichy:

Rockfort temples– The very first thing that will draw your attention is Rockfort, which is a fortress standing on the top of 273 feet high rock. Here, you will see many rock-cut cave temples in big rock that were built during the rule of Pallavas, lateron renovated by Madurai Nayaks and Vijayanagara rulers.

The Erumbeeswarar Temple- at Tiruverumbur is a masterpiece of Dravidian style of architecture, and it is among the national heritage monument of the country.

The Ranganathaswamy Temple– one of the largest functioning Vishnu temples situated on the island of Srirangam. Temple spread over an area of 155 Acres. This temple has mortal remains of Ramanujacharya who was a Vaishnavite saint and philosopher as well. It was built during the time of Cholas, but on later time many other dynasties like Pandyas, Hoysalas, Madurai Nayaks contributed in renovation.. The temple has 21 Gopurams; highest of them has a height of 72 meter.

The Jambukeswarar Temple at Thiruvanaikkaval is one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalams dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Nadir Shah Mosque- It is main mosque of the city having tomb of the Nadir Shah who was a Muslim saint of 10th century.

Chokkanatha Nayak Palace- it was built in 17th century by Madurai Nayaks which now it has been converted into a museum.

Churches in the Trichy town:

St. Joseph- one of the oldest and  famous among all churches of the city, situated close to Teppakulam. It was built in 1792 by the contribution of British govt. and the same become focal point for Christianity in the place.

St. John Church- is also a popular church in Trichy, built in 1812.

Lourdes Church built in 1766 is famous for Gothic styled architecture.

 

Kallanai Dam- is famous as oldest functioning dam, which was built by the Cholas nearly 2000 years ago. The place is good for picnic and relaxing purpose, its location provide you calm environment, surrounded by greenery.

Mukkombu- around 18 km from Trichy. There are many option for a visitor like an amusement park, children’s park and upper dam constructed on Kaveri River.

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple– it is believed that by taking blessing of Godess Mariamman many skin problem like small pox and chicken pox  may be cured.

Other attraction are Nawab’s palace, Railway Heritage Center.

 

How to reach Trichy:

Air: Being a industrial town of South India, there is an international airport in Trichy , connecting it to major indian cities and neighboring countries like Maldives, Singapore,Sri Lanka and with some Gulf country.

Train: Trichy railway station is well connected to major cities. From here you can go towards MaduraiRameshwaram, Erode, Tanjore and Chennai.

Road: City is well connected with major cities of the Tamil Nadu. There are buses available of Tamil Nadu state transport and private private operator. You can get bus even up to city to Kerala and Karnataka.
